I really love Beef Phở from Moonlight Cafe in the Central District. Phở is pronounced just like “fun” but without the “n.” There’s a sign that says there’s karaoke, but I’ve never seen it happen there. The restaurant’s pretty big and you can eat in or get take-out. There are vegan and meat menus.
Phở is a delicious kind of soup. The beef one is beef, cilantro, basil, bean sprouts, and noodles. The vegan one is basically that, but instead of beef there’s a combination of tofu and other veggie meats. When it comes to the table, the broth is in a bowl and the other stuff comes on a plate. You put the stuff on the plate, including the noodles, into the bowl and then eat it! The stuff floats and the noodles soften. It’s best hot. If you get take-out, it’s basically like that, except the broth is in a container and the fillings for the soup are in another container.
The Fried Egg Rolls are crispy and really good. There is a vegan one and a meat one. In the vegan one, there are carrots, daikon, and tofu all shredded. The Tofu Salad Rolls are fresh, and cut up, and vegan. They have tofu, noodles, veggies, and come with peanut sauce.
I would recommend going to Moonlight Cafe because the food there tastes good. They also have shrimp. Next time I go, I think I’ll get something from the Entrée menu because I think the entrées are really good.
