Saffron Spice is a Goan restaurant on Rainier Avenue near Beacon Hill. Goa is a state in India. I heard about it because I saw a food truck driving around that said on the back, “Saffron Spice, kebabs and curry” I asked Papa what a kebab was and he told me and I wanted to try it.
When I walked in, there was a big curtain in front of us and then on the left there was a kitchen with a desk in the doorway. There were three tables and a water machine with cups. It was pretty small and very calm. This is because most customers get take-out and this location supplies their food trucks. There is another location in Pike Place Market. The person at the counter greeted us warmly and was very nice.
The Beef Seek Kebab was chewy and full of flavor. It was laid in a bed of veggies and cilantro. It was too spicy for me, but it smelled wonderful. It came with saffron rice, which was buttery with a nice and yummy flavor. The plain rice was good too. It was long grain rice.
The Mix Vegetable Caldin is a curry dish. It was quite creamy because of the coconut milk, with cauliflower and other veggies like peas and carrots. I liked it because of the taste.
The Vegetable Samosa was really good with potatoes, peas, and spices inside it. The crust was nice and crispy, especially on the tips where the dough came together.
The Mango Lassi was very yummy. It was basically just mango and yogurt blended up and put in a cup. It was really good. It helped with the spice of the Kebab.
I recommend Saffron Spice because I like it. I especially recommend to try the Mango Lassi and the Samosas. Next time I’ll try the Beef and Chicken Samosas.
