Yafeu Reviews: Ba Bar

I went to Ba Bar because we had a plan to drop off my aunt at her work, go the Burke Museum, and then go to a restaurant Ba Bar is a Vietnamese street food restaurant. Sophie and Eric Banh are the owners. They also own Monsoon and Central Smoke Bar & Smokery. In Vietnamese “Ba” means “dad.”

In the middle of the restaurant, there was a thing that looked like a wood house . There were also fancy lights that have a very openly woven basket around them. It felt pretty fancy and colorful. We went there for lunch and it was very busy but everyone had a table when they came in. Our waiter was nice and had lots of tattoos. We went to the Ba Bar at University Village.

What I had was a house-made lemongrass soda, which was delicious and lemony. I loved it! My food was Phở Hà Nội Style, which was a special with Painted Hills Eye of Round Beef, fresh ginger, pickled bird’s eye chili, cilantro, and a savory Chinese doughnut. I added beef balls, which were flavorful meat balls. The phở was good. I loved the broth, and it was pretty ginger-y. The other stuff in the soup was good too. It had fewer vegetables than other phở I’ve had, but that was totally fine. The donut was SO good!

The Imperial Roll was nice and crispy. It had meat and veggies in it. The flavor was good.

I tried some of my dad’s vegan vermicelli bowl. What I tried was stuffed tofu skin. It was yummy. The things it had in it were tofu and vegetables. The cubes of tofu that weren’t in the tofu skin had a good sauce that was sweet and flavorful on them.

I would recommend Ba Bar. Next time I go, I will get the Phở Hà Nội if it’s still on the specials.
